Charity

Gazprombank embraced the Cyprus Autism Society and donated a considerable amount to support the efforts of the Society to build a brighter future for individuals with Autism.

The Cyprus Autism Society (CAS) was founded in 1990 and it recognized by the government of Cyprus as nonprofit organization. The CAS is a member of Autism Europe and the World Autism Organization and has currently recorded 400 members-families with children Autism. However it is estimated that around 3000 individuals suffer from the Autism spectrum. CAS aim is to secure the rights of the individuals with Autism syndrome and offer them a better quality of life and access to education.

Since 2004 CAS operates successfully the first sophisticated centre for the rehabilitation, education, treatment, protection and entertainment of children and adults suffering from Autism.

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a persons ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviours and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause for autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.

People with autism have said that the world to them is a mass of people, places and events which they struggle to make sense of, and which can cause them considerable anxiety. In particular, understanding and relating to other people, and taking part in everyday family and social life may be harder for them. Other people appear to know, intuitively, how to communicate and interact with each other, and some people with autism may wonder why they are 'different'.
